Please note: The content of this post is my own unless the technical terms are too hard to explain, then the content is copied and pasted. I am not a medical professional and thus the post is my point of view. But the content is science-based and credible. Just because it is a new science, does not necessarily make it quackery.
Who is DNAlysis?
DNAlysis is a South African medical company that allows individuals to improve and support their health via genetic testing – Get a Health Plan that will work for you according to your DNA.
Adapting your lifestyle according to your genetics is normally not readily available to the public, you have to see a specialist for it. Now, you can have the tests done and take it to your doctor and work from there to improve and optimise your health.

What test did we do?
We did the DNA Health, DNA Mind, MedCheck and DNA Diet. And just for fun – DNA Origin (Ancestry test).
DNAHealth looks at overall health and susceptibility to certain conditions. The test looks at:
- Lipid metabolism
- Methylation
- Detoxification
- Inflammation
- Oxidative Stress
- Bone Health
- Insulin Sensitivity
- Food Responsiveness
- Vitamin Responsiveness
- Iron
- Coffee sensitivity
- Salt sensitivity
- taste
- Alcohol metabolism
DNAMind looks at Mental health and your genetic disposition towards certain Mental Health issues. There are three categories: Neurodegenerative Disorders, Mood Regulators and Addictive behaviours. It further looks at:
- Lipid Metabolism
- Inflammation
- Methylation
- Wnt Signalling
- Stress response
- Cell signalling
- Dopaminergic
- Endocannabinoid
- GABAergic
- Neurotropic
- Serotonergic

MedCheck looks at what medications would work for you. A good to have when looking at medicating options for different conditions.
DNADiet is more geared towards weight loss, but it also indicates what type of diet works with your genetics. This report gives you:
- What diet suites you
- Exercise requirements
- Obesity risk
- Exercise importance
- Carbohydrates
- Fats
- Sweet tooth
- Snacking and satiety
- Circadian rhythm
The conclusion is that Alex will do well on a Mediterranean Diet, his genetic response pathways are more like a person with ADHD and should stay away from cannabis and other drugs, and his body systems are functioning at about 30% efficiency.
Funny, though his genetic responses are more ADHD characteristic, the Neurofeedback therapist says his brainwave patterns are classic Autistic.
Although the MyOrigins (Ancestry test) does not play a medical role in this instance, there are health conditions and illnesses which are more common amongst certain ethnic groups. Tourette syndrome – a condition of the nervous system which causes people to have “tics” whether verbal or blinking or twitching – is common among people with Ashkenazi Jewish genes.
(Maybe I will mention it later again. Both me and Alex’s dad did the DNA testing through a commercial ancestry testing company a while back – I can compare the results, but like I mentioned it does not really carry any medical significance pertaining to this blog.)
