The Glycolytic Cycle looks at Lactic and Pyruvic acids.
Glycolysis is the metabolic pathway by which we convert glucose (carbohydrates) into lactate and pyruvate to form energy (ATP). If levels of lactic and pyruvic acids are elevated, a person has mitochondrial dysfunction. High values for these markers may indicate that environmental toxins, particularly mould, are affecting your mitochondria. High lactic acid is commonly elevated with mould issues.
Results Part 3
The results in this section were below range. Lactic Acid produced a low reading while Pyruvic acid produced a “normal” reading.
DL-Lactic acid 3.4 (result) L / 20 – 246 (range)
Low levels of Lactic acid are usually a result of low levels of Pyruvic acid.
Lactic acid gets broken down in the liver and kidneys and can accumulate in the body when it is produced faster than it can be removed.
Elevated urine lactic acid levels are used to screen for rare metabolic disorders. They also increase due to various other health issues and can cause lactic acidosis, which is a life-threatening condition.
Pyruvic acid 0.05 (result) < 19 (range)
Pyruvic acid is created in the metabolism of carbs, proteins, and fats. It is one of the intermediate compounds our body uses to convert food into energy. Pyruvic acid is also an antioxidant and helps decrease inflammation.
A pyruvic acid test can tell you if there is a lack of oxygen in your body or issues with your blood vessels.
Even though carbs are a good source of energy creation, fruits or fructose may be an even better option as it is converted faster by the liver.
Terms: ATP – Adenosine triphosphate is the source of energy for use and storage at the cellular level. The structure of ATP is a nucleoside triphosphate, consisting of a nitrogenous base (adenine), a ribose sugar, and three serially bonded phosphate groups. ATP is commonly referred to as the “energy currency” of the cell.
